(BPRW) BronzeLens Hosts Fourth Annual Festival in Atlanta: The Film Capital of the South

(BLACK PR WIRE) – ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The 2013 BronzeLens Film Festival (BronzeLens) has expanded to five days and is set to be an interactive experience designed to empower, entertain and educate attendees from various film industry disciplines, students and the general public. Festival producers have put together a world class array of BronzeLens expert panels, workshops, domestic and international film screenings and signature events that reflect Atlanta’s unique position as the Film Capital of the South. BronzeLens 2013 will take place November 6-10, 2013 at various venues including Atlanta Marriott Marquis (Festival Headquarters), Georgia Pacific Center Auditorium, Ferst Center for the Performing Arts, Georgia Power Auditorium and Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

Feature films to be shown are the Atlanta Premiere of Pratibha Parmar’s Alice Walker: Beauty in Truth and director’s talk back in a rare in conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker at the Ferst Center for Performing Arts. Finding the Funk by Nelson George followed by a talk back with the director, the highly anticipated HBO film Whoopi Goldberg presents Moms Mabley and the Atlanta premiere of Steve Harvey Live – The Grand Finale will be screened at the Woodruff Arts Center’s Rich Theatre. BronzeLens festival activities will conclude with the Atlanta premiere of The Best Man Holiday as the closing night feature film.

Selected juried films include the work of filmmakers representing the United States, Africa, Canada, the Caribbean and Europe. More than 30 films will be screened which includes a collection of shorts, narratives, webisodes and documentaries.

BronzeLens Women Superstars Luncheon which has become a favorite signature event for industry insiders, corporations and the local community highlighting the accomplishments of women of color in the film and television industry will take place on Friday November 8, 2013 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel. Honorees include actresses Anna Maria Horsford, LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Mahira Kakkar, retired Coca Cola Executive Ingrid Saunders Jones, producers Issa Rae, Tonya Lewis Lee and Valerie Benning and Costumers Mabel and Shilla Benning.

Master Classes and Workshops will be led by top names in film, direction, and production. There will be an encore presentation of legendary casting director and producer Reuben Cannon’s "The Producers Roundtable” a groundbreaking session that brings together high-level entertainment executives to share their strategies for producing successful film and television projects. Participating producers include Jeff Clanagan, David Talbert and Paul Hall.

New to BronzeLens

Tananarive Due and Steven Barnes will present the panel Dark Dreams during which their first short horror film, DANGER WORD will be screened. The film is based on their short story, and the novel “Devil’s Wake.” They discuss the structure of horror, its cultural and psychological aspects, and the process they employed in actually making their film as well as their plans to leverage their way to a full feature. Q and A will follow.

BronzeLens and Actor's Alchemy are partnering to present the Top Actors Monologue Slam led by veteran casting director Winsome Sinclair for registered BronzeLens attendees. She has collaborated with top directors, casting principals, extras for Inside Man, Too Fast Too Furious, Cadillac Records and Precious among others. The Slam will be hosted by acclaimed producer John Singleton. Celebrity judges, including Reuben Cannon, John Singleton, Shelby Stone and a live audience on Friday, November 8th. Special guest performance by Duain Richmond of FELA!

Casting director Kim Hardin will conduct Casting with Kim Hardin, a two-day interactive class covering everything casting directors look for, to character preparation and audition etiquette. Over the course of her 25 year career, Hardin has launched the careers of some of Hollywood’s most bankable actors. Her notable film credits include Think Like a Man, Hustle & Flow, Four Brothers and ATL have collectively generated over $1 Billion worldwide.

BronzeLens International

BronzeLens re-joins France Atlanta in collaboration to present Chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, two-time competitor at the Cannes Film Festival, will present his most recent film, Grisgris, at the 4th Annual BronzeLens Atlanta Film Festival, followed by a Conversation with the audience that will be held on Saturday November 9, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Georgia Pacific Theatre moderated by Shadow and Act’s Tambay A. Obenson.

Slated to emcee the BronzeLens Awards is actor, singer, all around entertainer and star of Tyler Perry's Love Thy Neighbor television show, Palmer Williams, Jr. The ‘Best of Festival’ filmmakers in their perspective categories and other noteworthy industry leaders will be honored at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Cinema and Social Justice Sunday will be produced in conjunction with Center for Civil and Human Rights and continues to be a unique and critical component of the festival. Small, Small Things directed by Jessica Vale will be screened at the Georgia Power Arkwright Auditorium.
