(BPRW) Sam's Club® Supports Early Detection of Diabetes with Free Screenings for Its Members and the Public

- In-club screenings available on Saturday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. -

(BLACK PR WIRE) -- BENTONVILLE, Ark.--According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 29.1 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, and of those, 8.1 million are still undiagnosed. Further, there continues to be a large number of adults (86 million) aged 20 years and older who have pre-diabetes.1 To help encourage early detection of this chronic condition in communities around the U.S., Sam’s Club Pharmacy will host free diabetes screenings to both members and non-members on Saturday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The diabetes screenings are free, confidential and available to the public at all Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy (599 locations). The screenings, valued at $2502, include tests for:

• A1C blood test

• Glucose

• Total Cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol)

• Risk Ratio (relationship between total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol)

• Blood Pressure

• Body Fat Percentage

• Vision

“With these staggering statistics, there is clearly a need to offer people an easy and accessible way to detect diabetes early on,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness. “We are committed to offering solutions like this screening as a way to encourage people to take control of their health and to learn information that can be very valuable in getting them to their long-term health goals.”

In addition to monthly health screenings, Sam’s Club pharmacies provide savings and preventive care to each community it serves, such as year-round immunizations for adults ages 18 and above. Licensed pharmacists can administer walk-in flu shots and nine other important immunizations recommended to help protect against serious diseases like pneumonia, shingles and whooping cough. Sam’s Club also offers $4/$10 generic prescription prices to the public, and Sam’s Club Plus members and Sam’s Club Business members receive an additional 8 percent savings on name-brand prescriptions, 40 percent savings on generics not part of the $4/$10 generic prescription program, and access to more savings through the Extra Value Drug Program. Restrictions may apply.

Information about Sam’s Club health and wellness offerings can be found at SamsClub.com and in the Sam’s Club exclusive bi-monthly wellness magazine, Healthy Living Made Simple, which reaches approximately eight million members.
