(BPRW) Bet on Black While Celebrating Black Breastfeeding Week in Detroit

(Black PR Wire) DETROIT, MI - Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA) presents its’ 6th Annual Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Summit on August 26, 2017. In unison with Black Breastfeeding Week, this year’s theme, Bet on Black recognizes and acknowledges that the inherent wisdom, strength and self-reliance of black families has always helped to overcome challenges and resulted in the success and growth of black families and communities.

“Our Detroit families are extremely excited to participate in the Summit and Black Breastfeeding Week’s signature activity, The Baby Lift Up. The Baby Lift Up is a nationally coordinated activity where mothers throughout the nation simultaneously lift their babies up in the air as a symbolic reflection of their value,” shares Kiddada Green, Founding Executive Director of BMBFA.

BMBFA's Annual Summit is the capstone event celebrating Black Breastfeeding Week.  As apart of this rich annual event, BMBFA is excited to partner with Henry Ford Health System to launch Mommy-Friendly Detroit - a celebration of black motherhood that helps Detroit to become a place where systems, policies and practices align to achieve racial and health equity on behalf of all women, with an emphasis on Detroit’s most vulnerable women, their babies, families and communities.

“The Summit is the perfect place to launch Mommy-Friendly Detroit,” expresses Jaye Clement, Director of Community Health Programs and Strategies at Henry Ford Health System and co-creator of the Mommy-Friendly Detroit project. “What better time and place to honor black motherhood than amongst black mothers at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History!”

The event is free to the community.  Activities include: a resource and information fair, Mommy-Friendly Detroit Panel Discussion, a special break-out session for teen moms, fun children’s activities, lunch, many free giveaways and entertainment by MamaSol, and tha N.U.T.S.
