(BPRW) CAP Education Teams Outline Roadmap To Address Educational Equity in Light of the Coronavirus Pandemic

(Black PR Wire) Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress Early Childhood, K-12, and Postsecondary Education teams released a roadmap for what the federal government must do in the immediate, medium, and long term to address the fallout of the coronavirus crisis across America’s educational system. The analysis looks at what the federal government has already done and how these initiatives should be implemented and overseen; what should be done to help states grappling with the long-term demands of a recession on state budgets; and, finally, what new legislative efforts, flexibility, and research will be necessary to help communities whose education systems will be decimated by the ripple effects of COVID-19.

“While families and students in all communities are grappling with the spread of COVID-19, we know that those from low-income communities and communities of color will disproportionately bear the virus’s fallout. This roadmap is designed to help the federal government prevent the expansion of educational equity gaps from early learning through college by building on the initial steps that Congress has already taken to address the coronavirus crisis,” said Mara Rudman, executive vice president for Policy at CAP.
