(BPRW) MEDIA ALERT: VIBE Magazine Stirs Up Controversy with Mean Girls of Morehouse College

Controversial Look at Dress Code for Gender-Benders at All-Male School Angers Morehouse Administration

(BLACK PR WIRE) (October 12, 2010) NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In VIBE Magazine's latest issue (on newsstands October 12th), "Mean Girls of Morehouse" takes a look at the dress code put in place at Morehouse College targeted at the small group of active and vocal cross dressers at the traditionally all-male Black college.

The article has drawn record-breaking traffic online at www.vibe.com/content/mean-girls-morehouse.
It is imperative that we promote acceptance and tolerance instead of finger pointing and ostracizing, said Brett Wright, VIBE Magazine Co-CEO & Chief Creative Officer.

In an email sent to all Morehouse students and alumni, Morehouse College President Robert Franklin stated, "As president of this institution, as a Morehouse graduate and as a father, I am insulted by what is to be published. Addressing our young men as girls is deeply disturbing to me, no matter what the remainder of the article may say. Morehouse has for 140 years developed men men who are equipped to live and contribute to an increasingly diverse, global and complex world."

VIBE Magazine Co-CEO & Chief Creative Officer and Editor-In-Chief Jermaine Hall are available for on-air appearances and phone interviews to discuss VIBE’s decision to stand behind this controversial story.
