(BPRW) Allstate, Thurgood Marshall College Fund® Team Up to Keep HBCU Students From Becoming Latest Victims of The Down Economy

( BLACK PR WIRE)  NORTHBROOK, Ill., September 1, 2009 – Historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), many already hard hit by a recession-induced erosion of public/private education funding, are bracing in anticipation of students opting to drop out this fall because loan and scholarship sources have dried up.

To help reverse this disturbing trend, Allstate Insurance Company launched today the Quotes for Education program, an initiative that will donate $5 to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund for every auto insurance quote attributed to the program during the month of September – up to $50,000 total.

As part of Beyond February, the company’s year-round commitment to the African-American community, this program will assist students at HBCUs in paying tuition and will help them return to school this fall.

“Quotes for Education is an opportunity to protect the future of our students” said Kimberly Turner, multicultural marketing manager for Allstate. “We are tapping into the power of social networks to ignite support for this initiative that ultimately helps keep these kids in school.”

Consumers can visit a local Allstate agency or visit www.beyondfebruary.com to get an auto quote for the donation to go to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

Because Allstate believes in supporting the African-American community well beyond just the month of February, Beyond February was established in 2007 as an ongoing initiative that creates, supports and sponsors programs that empower and enrich African-American communities across the United States. Highlights of Beyond February since its inception in October 2007 include Give Back Day, Allstate’s promotion of volunteerism, and sponsorships of the Tom Joyner Family Reunion, the American Black Film Festival, State of the Black Union, and the Gospel Superfest.
