(BPRW) Disney's "Tinker Bell" Named "Honorary Ambassador of Green" at United Nations Headquarters

(BLACK PR WIRE) -- To Celebrate the World Premiere of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure and to promote environmental awareness in the lead-up to the upcoming Copenhagen conference on Climate Change, Disney’s Tinker Bell was named “Honorary Ambassador of Green” by Kiyo Akasaka, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, at United Nations Headquarters in New York yesterday (Sunday, 25th October 2009).

The naming of Tinker Bell as “Honorary Ambassador of Green” recognizes the underlying theme of the environment in the Tinker Bell movies, told through the magical world of Fairies and Pixie Hollow where nature is nurtured. Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure premiered on Disney Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

The United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) hosted the premiere of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure as part of the Secretary General’s Creative Community Outreach Initiative (CCOI) which aims to educate people about global issues through the creative and entertainment industries.

‘We’re delighted Tinker Bell has agreed to be our Honorary Ambassador of Green,” said Mr. Akasaka. “This beloved animated character can help us inspire kids and their parents to nurture nature and do what they can to take care of the environment.”

Since its earliest days, The Walt Disney Company has sought to inspire a love of nature through its storytelling. It does so by weaving environmental themes into its television programming and films as well as theme park and online experiences. This year, Disney has introduced two new environmental programs for kids: Disney’s Planet Challenge (www.disney.com/planetchallenge) for the classroom and Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green (www.disney.com/projectgreen) for everyday life.
