(BPRW) Florida A&M University Hosts American Cancer Society Relay For Life

(BLACK PR WIRE/FAMU-TALLAHASSEE, FL) – Tents, sleeping bags and music? It must be time for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life, an overnight event to celebrate survivorship and raise funds for cancer research, education, advocacy and services. Relay For Life will be held at FAMU’s Intramural Field, 2101 Wahnish Way Tallahassee, FL 32307 on Friday, April 12 starting at 6 P.M.

The Relay For Life brings together teams from student organizations, local businesses, schools, churches and families for camaraderie, food, music and entertainment, and a night under the stars –all while team members take turns walking or running on a track.

Relay For Life begins with a Cancer Survivors Lap and reception to celebrate life. Later in the evening, a Luminaria Ceremony honors those who are battling cancer and remembers those who have lost their fight.

“Relay For Life brings the Rattler community together,” said Jalisa Pierre, operations chair for the Relay For Life of FAMU. “We honor each person who has been touched by this disease while raising money for much needed cancer research, education, advocacy and service.”

At FAMU our goal is to raise $25,000 for the American Cancer Society. There will be performances by FAMU dance teams, such as HA2 C.D.T. Inc., Boyz of Poison, Addiction Dance Experience and FAMU Diamonds, an Apollo Theater-style variety showcase, a fitness session by Splack Fitness, a yard sale and many other activities and entertainment to keep Relay participants active throughout the event.

“We’re grateful to the Rattler community and the businesses helping us to achieve our goal and put on a high-energy event,” said Pierre.

Sponsors of the event include Student Housing Solutions, FAMU Student Government Association and Proctor & Gamble.
