ABOUT THE BOOK
Words matter but your body language speaks loud and clear without them. It’s what you’re not saying out loud that matters most. Before you open your mouth, your microexpressions, posture, gestures, and even the tilt of your chin are announcing to the world how you feel about yourself. Your body can say, “I’m so nervous I want to hide in the corner,” or you can take control of your nonverbal communication to radiate confidence, exude warmth, or announce your power. Hush will show you how to say more with a simple glance or gesture than words ever could.
As one of the world’s foremost body language experts, Linda Clemons, creator of The Clemons Method, travels the world training top CEOs, sales teams, celebrities, media luminaries, single people who want to learn the art of attraction, and anyone who needs to harness the enormous power of nonverbal communication to get what they want and succeed at the highest levels.
In HUSH, Clemons offers practical strategies with a dose of wit and plenty of straight talk that will supercharge your confidence during any social interaction. Her unique approach eliminates common body language challenges and her secrets to leveling up your presence will be your ticket to closing deals, landing jobs, owning the room, getting your ideas heard, calming fears, and even making someone’s heart race. Work, love, power moves—whatever your goal, Hush shows you how to speak volumes…even in total silence.
TALKING POINTS
“The Clemons Method,” has roots in the traditional history of nonverbal communication, but comes with a new twist. By understanding your own personal weaknesses, comes self-awareness, which allows you to then move forward towards achieving an intentional and positive nonverbal presence. Linda Clemons can speak to:
- Emotional Barriers: These are barriers that can block, or sabotage your success professionally, personally and socially. During communications breakdowns we often assume it was something we said, not realizing that it was actually something that we did or didn't do that caused a problem. These barriers are often rooted in our past, and show up in three key patterns:
- Frozen Solid: Where your expressions and body are locked down and your energy feels unreachable
- Flooding: Where unspoken emotions spill out of you physically in unintended ways, undermining your message
- Flat: where your presence lacks the vitality and nuance that draws people in.
- What Nonverbal Story You Are Telling? Your facial expressions, gestures and even the clothing that you wear communicate a message or tell a story. Your emotional state also impacts your movement i.e. positive, negative or neutral. You need to intentionally choose to change the nonverbal message you are projecting.
- The Triangle Technique: This is a quiet power move that makes you instantly more magnetic and socially generous. You can own the room by having everyone intentionally drawn to you through this nonverbal repositioning your body to welcome others into the conversation (both physically and verbally).
- How to hit the BRAKE: When you’re being underestimated, misjudged, or dismissed—especially in biased spaces—your reaction actually becomes part of the story people tell about you. That’s the trap. The BRAKE strategy helps you to slow down and recognize the biases that may be causing you to have a negative response, and then shift gears to achieve success.
- The EASE Strategy: ENTER with presence, ADAPT to the energy of the room, SITUATE yourself strategically, and ENGAGE in conversation. These steps will serve as your road map for successfully navigating social spaces and opening yourself up to new relational opportunities.
- Check your biofeedback cues: Biofeedback cues are the subtle internal or external signals that help you become more aware of what your body is doing so you can consciously adjust it. Identifying facial muscle tension starts with developing a habit of checking in with your body throughout the day, searching for those signals of accumulated stress or strain.
