One of 27 “Power to Care” volunteer events this week
(Black PR Wire) Beginning March 4, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) volunteers are participating in FPL’s Power to Care Week. Throughout the week, volunteers are rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty to help make the communities they serve even better places to work and raise families.
On Thursday, March 7, more than 60 FPL volunteers had all hands on deck at Miami Union Academy in North Miami spending the day painting, mulching and cleaning the landscaped area at the organization’s facilities.
Founded in 1917, the Miami Union Academy is a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school dedicated to providing children from traditionally underrepresented communities with the best education possible. A significant number of the school’s students are Step Up scholars from low income families. These beautification efforts will allow the academy’s staff to continue focusing on the issues that matter most to their students and the community.
This is one of 27 volunteer projects that are part of Power to Care Week, now in its 11th year. During the week, FPL volunteers will tackle community projects in 11 counties throughout Florida.
