(BPRW) Homefirst Hosts an Evening of Thanks to Honor Community Philanthropy

(Black PR Wire) PLAINFIELD, NJ - Homefirst Interfaith Housing and Family Services will host our annual Evening of Thanks on April 10, 2019, 6 PM – 9:30 PM at the Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains, honoring the contributions of four community philanthropist. This year’s honorees are:

  1. Benjamin Serna, Homefirst Hero
  2. Armando Guerra, NJ Governor of Lions Club International (District 16J)
  3. Annette Quijano, Assemblywoman NJ Legislative District 20
  4. Adrian Mapp, Mayor of Plainfield, NJ

“Each year the Homefirst Our Evening of Thanks event recognizes and honors the people, businesses and organizations who have been extremely generous with their time, talent and treasure to enable us to offer the services we provide to nearly 2,000 children, men and women throughout Union County. It’s only with the support of our partners, funders and volunteers that we are able to make a difference in the lives of so many, by giving them a helping hand to a pathway out of poverty,” said Rev. Ron Thomas, Homefirst Board President.

Adrian Mapp, Mayor of Plainfield, accredited for his ‘aggressive agenda focused on rebuilding the city’s economy and ensuring opportunity for all residents’, is among this year’s honorees. His civic duties lead to such initiatives as Plainfield Promise and Healthy Plainfield aimed to promote financial literacy for kindergartener children in Plainfield, create a scholarship to attend Union County College for economically disadvantaged high school graduates, as well as, create vocational and job training opportunities. Prior to holding office, Mayor Mapp served 12 years on the City Council, and as Union County Freeholder from 2005 to 2007.  With his financial acumen as a certified public accountant and municipal finance specialist, Mayor Mapp assumed responsibilities as the Director of Finance and Qualified Purchasing Agent for the City of Orange Township.
