(BPRW) Jessie Trice Community Health System Observes National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

(Black PR Wire) July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month (NMMHM). Jessie Trice Community Health System is joining the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) to shed light on the unique struggles that minorities face regarding mental illnesses in the United States.

Racial and ethnic minorities often suffer from poor mental health outcomes due to multiple factors, including inaccessibility to high-quality mental health care services, the cultural stigma surrounding mental health care, discrimination, and overall lack of awareness about mental health.

“There is a negative perception and stigma surrounding mental health which prevents those affected from seeking the psychological help they need,” said Annie Neasman, President and CEO of JTCHS. “Symptoms of emotional distress are not a sign of weakness. Mental health is an important part of overall health and well-being. Everyone feeling challenges with their mental health should understand the importance of receiving care from a culturally competent professional.”

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), only one in three Black adults who need mental health care receive it.

If you or your loved ones need Behavioral Services, book an appointment with a specialist.
