(BPRW) Volunteer Arlington to Host 6th Annual MLK Day of Service

(Black PR Wire) ARLINGTON, Va. – Volunteer Arlington, a program of the Leadership Center for Excellence, will hold its sixth annual MLK Day of Service event on Monday, January 16, 2023, to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The event encourages people to make Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a “day on” instead of a day off, by offering a variety of volunteer projects that support Volunteer Arlington’s partner nonprofit organizations.

At this year’s MLK Day of Service, there are more than 20 opportunities available to volunteer in person or virtually. You can browse and sign up for volunteer opportunities at volunteer.leadercenter.org/mlk

“We look forward to welcoming volunteers of all ages to this year’s MLK Day of Service,” said Lisa Fikes, President & CEO of the Leadership Center for Excellence. “Honoring Dr. King on this day can take many forms. You can participate in hands-on volunteer opportunities such as cleaning up a park or making blankets. Or, you can take time to learn about community challenges and identify how you can be a part of the solution. All are acts of civic engagement and make a difference in working towards building a beloved community.”

On January 16, before the volunteer projects begin, everyone is invited to attend an opening program at Washington-Liberty High School from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. Plus, the first 500 people to check in for the event will receive an MLK Day of Service t-shirt. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m.

During the opening program, Volunteer Arlington will also recognize the first recipient of its Beloved Community Award.

The MLK Day of Service is a free event that is open to the public. Advance registration for volunteer opportunities is encouraged as many will fill up.
