Embrace Your Story: Seeing the Beauty in Your Own Life
Overtown Youth Center celebrates its 8th Annual Jewel Summit
Embrace Your Story: Seeing the Beauty in Your Own Life
(Black PR Wire) The Overtown Youth Center (OYC) in partnership with its sibling organization Honey Shine will celebrate its 8th Annual Jewel Summit. The initiative is designed to offer females of all ages a chance to engage in empowering sessions that aid in overcoming life’s challenges and motivating them to become stronger and more resilient individuals. The hallmark of Jewel Summit has been to educate and empower participants in making choices grounded in self-respect and above all, to encourage and promote self-care. The event will be hosted at the Overtown Youth Center, located at 450 NW 14th Street Miami, FL 33136. The event is scheduled from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.
The theme of this year’s Jewel Summit is Embrace Your Story: Seeing the Beauty in Your Own Life. In the age of social media, so many of us have become distracted by the perceived awesomeness of others. Allowing the successes of others, to devalue our own personal journeys. It’s important to note that self-worth is not the practice of measuring oneself against others, rather, it is understanding the significant value of you. Session topics will include the impact of emotional abuse in the family, anti-bullying, social exclusion, navigating healthy friendships; self-love and removing the veil from human trafficking.
The day will feature an opening address from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, District 2, Board Chair, Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall. The Overtown Youth Center promotes the tenets of empowerment, inspiration and enrichment in the lives of the children and families we serve.
The Overtown Youth Center would like to thank its sponsoring organizations, Honey Shine Mentoring Program, New Horizons Community Mental Health Center, The Children’s Trust, United Way, United Way Eden Place and Target.
The Overtown Youth Center vision is to expose youth to numerous resources and opportunities that will aid in their educational and social development so they will ultimately become positive contributing citizens (PCCs). OYC defines PCCs as students who have entered into a post-secondary educational institution, vocational school, and/or obtained gainful employment, and are making a worthwhile impact in their local community.
