(BPRW) THE ATLANTA DJ CONSORTIUM

An ATL “Mama” brought together the Dirty South’s premiere DJs in a charity effort for Black activist groups - next live show Saturday July 25th!

(Black PR Wire) Atlanta, GA – The COVID-19 pandemic on top of the long-standing injustices against the Black community has been a struggle for all in 2020. But one proud Clark Atlanta University Alumna curated an event to lift our spirits, raise awareness, and promote social distancing all while dancing to your favorite DJs.

On paper, her name is Kathryn Londry, Kat for short, and who is a matchless, high spirited soul to say the least. Yet, most people know her by Super Kat or Mama Kat, in which she embraces the interchangeable nicknames with pride and much humility.

When music clubs closed down across the nation in March of 2020, stay-at-home DJ “Quarantine Parties” became the new normal. Mama Kat saw the opportunity within this to give back to her community — so she called upon some of her closest DJing friends to put on a new online live stream residency where the “Party at Home” is elevated around discussions of racial injustices, the stigma of mental health in the Black community, and the importance of music education for underprivileged students.

Presented on Facebook Live in partnership with Center Stage Atlanta (who’s physical doors have been closed in March), each charitable live streaming event is a 2-hour dance party showcasing a roster of talented DJs while driving donations to support different causes. All proceeds raised during the live DJ sets are donated to the pre-selected organizations.

The first show was launched in celebration of June’s African-American Music Appreciation Month with DJ Swiff (@swiffman1) and DJ Montay (@djmontay) supporting the Equal Justice Initiative. The second show featured DJ Jelly (@therealdjjelly) and Mr. Collipark aka DJ Smurf (@colliparkletsgo) raising funds for the Boris L. Henson Foundation. The final show of the premiere residency will take place on Saturday, July 25th  with DJ Princess Cut (@djprincesscut) and DJ Mars (@djmars404) spotlighting the Atlanta Music Project. The DJs are joined by media personality Anise Brenee (@anisabrenee) to engage in a Q&A about current events.

“Music will always be my safeguard on various wavelengths, and what better way than people coming together virtually to vibe out and support great causes during a global pandemic and unprecedented instance in this much necessary movement for equity for Black Lives at the same time” - Mama Kat.
