Honoring a Legacy of Equity, Scholarships, and Impact with $2.2 Million Awarded to Over 4,000 Students
(Black PR Wire) WASHINGTON, DC – For half a century, the Zeta National Educational Foundation (ZNEF) has been instrumental in transforming potential into achievement, awarding more than $2.2 million in scholarships and positively impacting the lives of over 4,000 students nationwide. Established to create pathways of opportunity, ZNEF serves as a pillar of equity for underserved students, particularly first-generation college students and women of color, who encounter significant financial and systemic barriers in higher education.
As tuition costs continue to rise and debt burdens disproportionately affect certain demographic groups, especially Black women who carry the heaviest average student loan debt, ZNEF’s mission is more crucial than ever. Beyond financial assistance, ZNEF scholarships represent life-changing investments, empowering students to excel academically, pursue professional goals, and give back to their communities.
To celebrate this 50-year milestone, the Foundation is hosting a star-studded gala featuring Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Musiq Soulchild, whose genre-blending sound embodies creativity, resilience, and inspiration.
The ZNEF 50th Anniversary Gala will be held at the National Museum of African American History and Culture on Saturday, October 4, 2025. This night promises to be one of celebration, reflection, and purpose, as we honor five decades of impact through education and highlight ZNEF’s unwavering commitment to shaping a brighter and more equitable future. Guests will gather to uplift, inspire, and continue the journey of transforming lives through knowledge and opportunity.
Adding to the evening’s distinction, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., member Jericka Duncan, CBS News National Correspondent, CBS WEEKEND NEWS anchor, will serve as Guest Host. Known for her powerful storytelling and dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices, Duncan’s presence underscores ZNEF’s mission of advancing equity and opportunity. Her leadership on the gala stage will guide the celebration with both grace and purpose.
Valerie Hollingsworth Baker, President of ZNEF and Past International Centennial Grand Basileus of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, remarked, “For 50 years, ZNEF has been a trusted advocate for educational equity. Every scholarship represents more than financial aid; it symbolizes hope, access, and opportunity. Our commitment extends beyond funding education; it is about transforming lives and creating a legacy where every student, especially young women of color, can thrive.”
Actress and philanthropist Vivica A. Fox stated, “Education is the most powerful tool we can provide the next generation. What ZNEF has accomplished over the past 50 years—supporting students who might otherwise be overlooked—is truly extraordinary. I am honored to celebrate this milestone and support their mission of empowerment.”
Jericka Duncan, CBS News National Correspondent, CBS WEEKEND NEWS anchor, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. member, said, “As a journalist, I’ve had the privilege of telling the stories of resilience and triumph. ZNEF embodies that same spirit providing students with the resources, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed. I am proud to serve as guest host for this historic celebration and to honor the Foundation’s enduring commitment to shaping brighter futures.”
