(BPRW)RushmoreDrive.com and ESPN's Keith Clinkscales Present Blacks in Sports and Society, a Black History Month Initiative

( BLACK PR WIRE)CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of Black History Month, RushmoreDrive.com, the nation’s first search-engine for the Black community, and Keith Clinkscales, Senior Vice President, Content Development and Enterprises, ESPN, have teamed up to present Blacks in Sports and Society, a Black History Month initiative that features sports writers addressing historic and contemporary issues impacting Blacks in sports. Clinkscales served as Guest Editor of this initiative for RushmoreDrive.com.

Featured writers include Hip-Hop writer and activist Kevin Powell; ESPN’s Jemele Hill; RushmoreDrive.com sports writer Chris Wilder; and Black basketball historian Claude Johnson. Each day between Feb. 9-13, RushmoreDrive.com will highlight stories that address a range of issues including race, class and gender. Clinkscales and RushmoreDrive.com’s Editorial Director, Nsenga K. Burton, Ph.D., worked closely to bring the best and brightest voices to the project.

Burton states, “RushmoreDrive.com decided to look at how Black athletes have helped shape American society. We wanted to elevate the discussion from stereotypes about Blackness and athletes to closely examining how Black athletes have positively influenced the socio-political fabric of American culture to create a new, lived Black aesthetic. We knew that Keith was the perfect person to help make that happen.”

Clinkscales added: “One of the true joys of sports is how its fabric and culture are interwoven into the American tapestry. This was a unique opportunity for sports writers, who often tangle with the complicated issues of race and class while trying to bring forth journalistically sound stories full of insight and opinion on American Sport, to speak to RushmoreDrive.com’s powerful audience. I am proud to have played a role in pulling this together.”

RushmoreDrive.com’s CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. states: “RushmoreDrive.com is a search-engine first and foremost, so it is always our goal to establish partnerships that will help enlighten and educate our users, inspiring them to search for more information about Blacks in sports and society on RushmoreDrive.com.”
