When Kim Hamilton rose to fame, she was anything but a typical
World-class gymnast. She wasn’t white, she didn’t come from a
Middle-class family and she was tall for a gymnast. But facing
Those obstacles was nothing compared to the challenges she faced
At home. Hamilton Anthony's path to success was not an easy one.

In her memoir, Unfavorable Odds, she shares her story of not only overcoming the
Unfavorable odds of being a 5-7 African-American gymnast from a low-income, urban community, but also the challenges she faced being surrounded by drugs and violence. It also chronicles her journey to escape the cycle of hopelessness that pervaded her everyday life and reveals the keys she used to overcome the obstacles she faced, in a way that anyone can apply to his or her own life.

About Kim Hamilton Anthony
Hamilton Anthony was the first African-American woman to receive a scholarship to
Compete for UCLA’s gymnastics team. There she became a four-time NCAA Champion, winning an unprecedented three consecutive titles on floor exercise from 1987-89 and also capturing the vault title in 1989. She also won a school-record seven NCAA Regional titles and captured four Pac-10 individual titles and six All-America honors. Prior to competing at UCLA, she was a U.S. National Team member from 1984-86. In 2000, she became only the second UCLA female gymnast to be inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.

She has maintained a successful post-gymnastics career as a sports commentator for ESPN and Fox Sports as is the host of the Miami-Dade TV show "County Connection." Hamilton Anthony is also an inspirational/motivational speaker and a chaplain for the Miami Dolphins Wives.
