(BPRW) Interpublic Group's Black Employee Network (BEN) Celebrates Black Music Month

(BLACK PR WIRE) NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Tuesday, June 29, 2010, The Black Employee Network of Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG), commemorated Black Music Month with “A Melodic Merger of Black Artists, Music & Brands: Where the Soul of Black Music Meets Madison Avenue.” The evening showcased how black artists and corporate brands work together to achieve brand awareness, market growth and strong relationships with consumers. Over 300 IPG employees and special guests attended the program.

After opening remarks by IPG Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Michael Roth, the program continued with host and legendary musician, songwriter and producer, James Mtume at the Canal Room in Manhattan. The evening included jaw-dropping performances from emerging artists Hal Linton (Universal Motown Records), Jermaine Paul (MBK Entertainment) and Elle Varner (MBK Entertainment & J. Records). The headlining performance was legendary artist, MC Lyte, who “stole the show” with a medley of her greatest hits. In addition to the performance, MC Lyte participated on the “Black Artists, Music and Brands” panel discussion with other industry insiders to discuss the importance music can play in building a brand’s identity. IPG agencies created a video to showcase existing marketing campaigns that marry black artists with successful brands, including Beyoncé and L’Oréal, as well as Jennifer Hudson and WeightWatchers.

“Diversity is transforming the consumer population, influencing the pool from which we draw our talent and shaping style and creativity in our society,” noted Michael Roth in his opening comments. “For us to continue to compete effectively in a rapidly-changing industry, our clients need to have access to a workforce whose creativity and resources reflect the changing demographics of our world. Tonight’s event strengthens IPG’s leadership role in connecting brands in powerful ways with all consumers,” he continued.

The Black Employee Network’s (BEN) mission is to empower employees of African descent with an environment that is welcoming, fair, rewarding and which enables them to contribute to their maximum potential.
