“Given that the District of Columbia ranks as one of the country’s cities most impacted by HIV/AIDS—and particularly its African-American residents who are the hardest hit by new HIV infections—we want to provide as many convenient opportunities as possible for people living with HIV/AIDS to access the medical care they need and achieve viral suppression,” explains AHF Regional Director John Hassell. “With all the resources and treatment options that are available today, helping people learn their status and retaining them in care is key to stopping the virus from spreading in the region and claiming more lives.”

According to recent statistics from the Kaiser Family Foundation, black men who have sex with other men represent one in four of the 16,000 residents living with HIV in the District of Columbia. The next largest demographic group is black heterosexual women, who represent 16 percent of all city HIV cases.

AHF currently operates 43 Healthcare Centers throughout the United States and the District of Columbia – including the AHF "Blair Underwood" Healthcare Center located at 2141 K St. NW and the AHF Prince George’s County Healthcare Center located at 4302 Saint Barnabas Rd., Suite B in Temple Hills, MD. Each Healthcare Center provides medical programs tailored to the specific needs of asymptomatic and symptomatic HIV/AIDS individuals from qualified medical and support professionals.
