(Black PR Wire) Miami-- Healthy Hearts Initiative, a non-profit organization seeking to change the course of cardiovascular disease in South Florida, in collaboration with Miami Dade College School of Science is hosting a FREE Heart Fair on World Heart Day.

The first of its kind fair dedicated principally to cardiovascular health will provide important information from Board Certified Cardiologists and other health experts about a variety of issues including:

• Available Health Resources in Miami Dade County
• Risk Factors & Prevention Tips for Cardiovascular Disease
• Effects of Obesity on the Heart
• Eating Healthy In & Out of Your Home
• Ways to Relax & Exercise
• How Old is Your Heart and How to Make it Younger
• Sudden Cardiac Arrest

In addition, attendees will be able to get FREE screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, body mass index, EKG (based on physician referral) and information about sudden cardiac arrest for student athletes.

The Heart Fair is designed to call attention to the importance of cardiovascular health on World Heart Day and provide the South Florida community with access to heart health information and screenings.

“Heart disease is the number one killer in the US and in our community,” Dr. Minerva Santo-Tomas, board certified cardiologist and founder of Healthy Hearts Initiative, says. “There are a number of health fairs out there but none dedicated primarily to the disease that is killing more people than any other and that, in many cases, is preventable,” Dr. Santo-Tomas added. “Along with Miami Dade College School of Science, our goal for this fair is to be able to help people get heart healthy.”

The Heart Fair will take place on World Heart Day, Tuesday, September 29, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Miami Dade College North Campus located at 11380 NW 27th Ave in Miami. Admission is free. Pre-register at www.hhius.org or on-site the day of the event.
