(BPRW) Alfred Street Baptist Church in Collaboration with the NAACP Present A Prayer Walk for Peace and Justice on Sunday, June 14 at 6am ET

Members of Alfred Street Baptist Church and the NAACP to Participate in Prayer Walk for Peace and Justice to Black Lives Matter Plaza in DC on Sunday, June 14

(Black PR Wire) The Alfred Street Baptist Church in Collaboration with the NAACP will host a Prayer Walk for Peace and Justice on Sunday, June 14, 2020, in Washington, D.C.

Regional and local ecumenical believers and leaders, national faith leaders, congressional leaders, civil rights leaders, and celebrities will gather at 6:00 a.m. at the National Museum of African American History and Culture at 1400 Constitution Avenue, N.W., pray, and march to 16th Street and Black Lives Matter Plaza, N.W., arriving at 7:45 a.m.

The purpose of the Prayer Walk is to come together as leaders of faith to declare and decree to the world that Black Lives Matter.

“As we mourn the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others, we must continue to rely on the power of prayer to guide us through the trauma of racism and inequality,” said Rev Dr. Wesley Howard-Johnson, Pastor, ASBC. “African Americans have a long rich history of overcoming adversity through our love of family and community.”

ASBC and NAACP believe that:

  • Equal justice and equal protection under the law are rights to which all people are entitled.
  • Governments should protect those who are most vulnerable and never fail to seek justice for acts of violence perpetrated against minorities by those who claim superiority or dominance.
  • Structural systemic racism and police violence in America must end.

Among the demands that ASBC and NAACP will present to Congress following the march are a national conversation on racial justice and equality in America, full implementation of the Voting Rights Act of 1964, immediate implementation of Eight Can’t Wait principles to remedy the use of force, and support of NAACP’s call to classify the mistreatment of black people as a human rights violation.
