(Black PR Wire) July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the unique mental health challenges many in our communities’ face. For communities of color, caring for our mental health can come with distinct barriers, from cultural stigma and financial strain to a lack of providers who truly understand our lived experiences. On top of everyday stress, we often navigate generational trauma, cultural expectations, and much more.
Through it all, healing is possible, and you don’t have to go through it alone. Whether you are seeking therapy, community support, or just someone who gets it, there are resources created with minority communities in mind. Organizations like Therapy for Black Girls, The Loveland Foundation, and Black Mental Wellness, to name a few, are great places to start. In addition to these, if you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, more resources are available, including:
- National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Helpline: 1+800-950-6264
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) Helpline: 1-800-622-HELP (4357)
- Mental Health America: Call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org
This month and beyond, let’s keep normalizing mental health care in our communities!
