Miami-Dade Judges and Police to assembly stations designed by Home Décor Guru Martin Amado

(Black PR Wire) MIAMI, FLORIDA - Home-learning stations, complete with desks, chairs, lamps, other décor and printers, will be donated to some girls who participate in the Embrace Girls Foundation’s program.  

Lifestyle and Home Decor Guru Martin Amado designed each girl’s personal station, which will be assembled by six Miami-Dade County Judges and police officers.  The home-learning-station build and presentation are a part of the Embrace Girls Foundation’s annual Back To School Event in partnership with the Miami-Dade Police Department. The event takes place Friday, August 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Northside Station.  

Themed "Back to School from a Distance," the event will provide needed supplies, backpacks, uniforms, books, and this year, the donation of 18 home-learning stations, necessary to achieve a positive at-home learning experience.  “This is what community partnerships look like ­– over a dozen donors from a myriad of professions supported this project," said Embrace Girls Foundation CEO and Founder Velma R. Lawrence.

The organization will provide over 150 backpacks and supplies to its members who attend schools in Miami-Gardens, Liberty City, Doral, and the City of South Miami, and the Miami-Dade Police Department's Northside Station to distribute to children and families in the community.  

Miami-Dade Judges Miesha Darrough, Tanya Brinkley, Julie Nelson, Chiaka Ihekwaba, Michelle Delancey and Ayana Harris will assist the police with assembling the desks.  

Miami-Dade County Judge Miesha Darrough, who serves on Embrace Girls Foundation’s board, was one of the first to support the initiative. The desks will be special surprises for the program's 18 Super Girls – those who met attendance and reading requirements. "Having a positive impact in our community is important to all of us [Judges] and that's why we partnered with the Embrace Girls Foundation,” Judge Darrough said. “By providing support, resources, opportunities, and experiences that these girls would not otherwise have, Embrace has been at the forefront of bringing about change in our community.”  

Darrough continued: "We recognize that we are living in abnormal times, but we want to make sure the girls continue to receive a good education, which starts with having the right resources and a safe space to learn while practicing social distancing. Plus, we are girly girls ourselves so we welcome the opportunity to glam-out the girls’ rooms. The best part will definitely be watching the look on the girls’ faces when the makeovers are revealed."

Martin Amado, Design Expert/TV Host, and Author has collaborated with the Embrace Girls Foundation for many years now and supports its mission through his design work. “The girls in the program learn so many life skills that can’t be taught in books and get to experience a world beyond their own to make them realize that everything is possible if you work hard and focus on your education,” Amado said. “In the midst of a pandemic, Velma continues to inspire the girls with distance learning activities to enhance their personal growth and by providing the proper tools [desks, chairs, backpacks and more] to ensure their future success! When Velma calls me, I’m there to help any way I can. A sentiment shared by the many contributors to the project.”

Pearce's daughter Jada joins her mother as a volunteer for the program. The former Embrace Girl member is currently a pharmacist student at Florida A&M University.  

“My daughter was also a member of this organization and benefited in more ways than I. From building her self-confidence to cultural experiences and academic support, I am always amazed at how much they do for these girls."
