(BPRW) Color Of Change Launches New Membership Campaign Centered on Community Safety and Collective Protection

(Black PR Wire) NATIONAL — Recently, Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, launched a new membership campaign inviting people to join the movement while receiving practical tools rooted in Black communities’ long tradition of collective protection.

As part of the Solidarity Whistle: Know Your Rights initiative, individuals who become Color Of Change members with a contribution of $25 or more will receive a community safety whistle and Know Your Rights information designed to help protect themselves, their families, and their neighbors. Members will also be connected to local organizing efforts and shareable resources that help build community power beyond digital spaces.

“At a time when too many forces want our communities afraid, isolated, and silent, we’re choosing connection,” said Nadine Smith, President and CEO of Color Of Change. “This campaign is about practical solidarity — giving people tools they can actually use, reliable information they can trust, and a reminder that safety is something we build together.”

The campaign launches during Black History Month and as Color Of Change marks 20 years of organizing, grounding the effort in a long tradition of Black communities protecting one another when institutions failed to do so. From neighborhood watches to phone trees, collective response has always been central to survival and resistance.

The Solidarity Whistle is offered as a thank-you item for membership and is designed for collective use. A whistle draws attention, interrupts harm, and signals to others to respond, reinforcing the idea that safety depends on people showing up for one another. Paired with Know Your Rights resources, the initiative emphasizes preparedness, shared responsibility, and real-world action.

Membership contributions support Color Of Change’s campaigns to protect Black communities from state violence, challenge systems of harm, and respond to urgent civil rights threats. Higher contribution tiers will also help fund the distribution of whistles and Know Your Rights materials to communities facing increased risk.
