(BPRW) FPL's Power to Care initiative makes it happen in our communities

(Black PR Wire) Ahead of National Tell a Story Day on April 27, Juliet Roulhac, external affairs director at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), filmed herself reading “An Orange in January” by Dianna Hutts Aston in Plantation, Florida. This was done in partnership with Reading Is Fundamental’s “Until Every Child Reads” initiative, which inspires communities, companies, literacy advocates and individuals to address the literacy crisis in America. Her recorded story will be featured on the organization’s virtual library for children, helping to inspire a passion for reading and creating more engaged readers.

This was one of four service projects FPL employees participated in as part of the company’s annual Power to Care, Serving Apart Together campaign from April 19-30, which coincided with National Volunteer Week from April 18-24. In total, employees and their families signed up for more than 1,100 service project opportunities across 25 Florida counties. Now in its 13th year, this year’s Power to Care campaign was reimagined for COVID-19. Service projects were designed to be done remotely with family so FPL employees could serve their communities together, but safely apart.

Lucretia Allen, a Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) employee in North Miami, Florida, helped clean up the community in honor of Earth Day alongside her nephew, Lashawn Carter. The litter pickup was done with the help of a Power to Clean kit they received from FPL including gloves, masks, hand sanitizer and a trash picker.
