Juneteenth National Independence Day, which became a federal holiday in 2021, commemorates an end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of both the Civil War and slavery, in accordance with President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.

Robin Bledsoe Park, 601 S. Bagdad Road, is a 16-acre park with lighted multipurpose fields, a basketball court, playscape, swimming pool, splash pad, pavilion, picnic tables, BBQ grills, and amphitheater.
