Nicole Austin-Hillery, President and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation issued the following statement on the passing of former Representative Charles B. Rangel.
(Black PR Wire) “It is with profound sorrow that the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) mourns the loss of Congressman Charles B. Rangel—a trailblazing legislator, decorated war hero, and a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Congressman Rangel’s passing marks the end of an extraordinary era in American political history, one defined by courageous leadership and an unrelenting commitment to justice.
Congressman Rangel served the people of Harlem and this nation with unparalleled distinction for more than four decades. As one of the longest-serving members of the U.S. House of Representatives, his legacy includes shaping critical legislation that expanded economic opportunity, advanced civil rights, and strengthened the fabric of our democracy. His leadership on the House Ways and Means Committee and his role in landmark efforts such as the Affordable Care Act remain pivotal contributions to our nation’s progress.
More than a policymaker, Congressman Rangel was a mentor, a truth-teller, and a fierce advocate for Black communities and underserved populations across the country. His work helped lay the foundation upon which so many of us now stand. His impact reverberates through every young leader who dares to serve, every family lifted from poverty, and every community empowered through his vision.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, and all those whose lives were touched by his profound service. May we honor Congressman Rangel’s legacy by continuing the fight for equity, justice, and opportunity for all.”
