(Black PR Wire) Raleigh, NC – As part of the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, EARTHDAY.ORG and The Great Raleigh Cleanup are proud to host a Workforce Cleanup in Raleigh, North Carolina, providing paid opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness to remove trash and plastic pollution from their own neighborhoods. During the event, participants will earn $20 per hour and receive meals as they work to clear waste from an extremely high-need greenway area.
This cleanup is part of EARTHDAY.ORG’s Great Global Cleanup®, which mobilizes cleanups around the world to help create a waste-free world. In Raleigh, that change is already underway. What began as a program by The Great Raleigh Cleanup has grown into a city-supported effort, now backed by a five-year contract to sustain its mission of environmental and social impact.

BACKGROUND:
The Workforce program empowers Raleigh residents experiencing homelessness by providing meaningful employment opportunities while addressing local environmental issues. Since its inception, the program has removed more than 35,000 pounds of trash from public spaces—demonstrating how cleanup efforts can create real jobs, restore dignity, and strengthen communities.
“The Great Global Cleanup is about more than just removing waste—it’s about building a waste-free world in a way that uplifts people. We believe environmental action should support communities, while finding long term solutions, not just clean them for a day. We are proud to support The Workforce. Preston and The Great Raleigh Cleanup have created a model that proves environmental progress and social impact can go hand-in-hand,” said Michael Karapetian, The Great Global Cleanup Coordinator at EARTHDAY.ORG. “This effort in Raleigh is a powerful example of what can happen when local leadership, community engagement, and long-term investment come together. It’s the future of environmental work, and we’re proud to stand behind it.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with EARTHDAY.ORG to bring this cleanup to life. Their support allows us to put our Workforce to work on Earth Day—creating both environmental impact and meaningful employment,” said Preston Ross III, Founder & Executive Director, The Great Raleigh Cleanup
