(BPRW) Sweet Home CDC’s Community-Wide Outreach Event a Big Success

FPL was among the leading community partners supporting the effort

(Black PR Wire) Miami, FL – The Sweet Home Community Development Corporation (CDC) prides themselves on impacting the community through their works. Recently, they did just that and more during their annual Back-to-School Outreach Event, which took place at West Perrine Park. An astonishing crowd of over 500 attended and received school supplies, backpacks, educational materials and more.  Plus, there was music, games, performances, and plenty of food for everyone to enjoy.

“We were very pleased with the outcome of this year’s event, which was our biggest ever,” says Minister Olivia Carey, a lead organizer for the CDC.  “It was such a joy to to help the families and children in need, and the smiles were priceless.”

Partners, like Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), helped pave the way for the event’s success.  The FPL teams throughout Miami-Dade County worked collectively to gather back packs and school supplies, and delivered hundreds to Sweet Home CDC for the event.  They were also active participants in the daylong events.

“We were delighted to partner with Sweet Home CDC and help out,” says Baldwyn English, the External Affairs Manager at FPL.  “It’s great events like this that helps us connect with our communities and we consider it an honor.”

The Back-to-School effort was a partnership of community churches and businesses in the South Miami-Dade areas. In addition to FPL’s support, numerous partners included Checkers, BJ’s, Women of Distinction #6, Papa Johns, and Chuckiee Boy who were also recognized for their involvement and support.
