(BPRW) JTCHS kicks off National Health Center Week with a ribbon cutting at Lotus Village.....

Part of the Back to School Block Party & Health Fair

(Black PR Wire) Miami – As an early kick-off for National Health Center Week (NHCW), Jessie Trice Community Health System (JTCHS) and Lotus Village will conduct a “Back to School Block Party and Health Fair.”   This event takes place on Saturday, August 11th from Noon – 5 p.m. at Lotus Village, located at 217 NW 15th Street in Overtown/Miami.

The celebration, entitled “It Takes A Village,” will also feature the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new state-of-the-art medical and dental clinic of the Lotus Village, which is operated by JTCHS.

“We are delighted to provide these important and much needed services to our community right here in Overtown,” says JTCHS’s President and CEO, Annie Neasman. “In this era of significant healthcare challenges facing our nation, collaborating with our neighborhood partners helps bridge the gap in access to basic medical, dental, and vision services. And as we kick-off National Health Center Week, this is a day to celebrate a new chapter for both JTCHS and Overtown.”

During the celebration, there will be a number of free medical services offered, and essential back-to-school tools and supplies will be provided to the children and young adults.  The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and will feature our communities’ elected officials, as well as key leaders from JTCHS and Lotus Village.

At Lotus Village, JTCHS will offer medical, dental, ophthalmological, and OB/GYN services at the new clinic. A men’s health initiative is also being planned to address their special needs. The new clinic includes five medical exam rooms, triage, seven state-of-the-art dental exam rooms, a panoramic dental x-ray machine, labs and sterilization facilities and a welcoming lobby.

JTCHS is part of a nationwide network of health centers that serve more than 27 million Americans.  Health centers have compiled a significant record of success that includes:

  • Producing $24 billion in annual health system savings;
  • Reducing unnecessary hospitalizations and unnecessary visits to the emergency room;
  • Treating patients for a fraction of the average cost of one emergency room visit;
  • Maintaining patient satisfaction levels of nearly 100 percent;
  • Serving more than one in six Medicaid beneficiaries for less than two percent of the national Medicaid budget;
  • Lowering the cost of children’s primary care by approximately 35 percent

The heroes who work at health centers and help make affordable health care possible for people in need are at the center of this year’s NHCW.

 More than 205,000 people work at health centers in positions that include clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dentists and dental hygienists, behavioral health specialists, and much more.  Working together, these health care heroes produce innovative solutions to the most pressing health care issues in their communities. They reach beyond the walls of conventional medicine to address the factors that may cause sickness, such as lack of nutrition, mental illness, homelessness and substance use disorders. It is their work that has helped reduce health care costs and reduce chronic disease, generating a record of success and along with it a long tradition of bipartisan support in Congress.
