Odyssey Media's Founder & CEO, Linda Spradley Dunn stressed the importance of helping entrepreneurs, and Richelieu Dennis, CEO of Sundial Brands, matched Linda’s $25K prize money. In total Odyssey was able to award more than $50K!
Our winner, Kim Roxie, attended her first Odyssey event, In the Black, in Houston, Texas. She is the founder and president of LAMIK Beauty. When the contest was announced, she was hesitant to apply but received a phone call from Odyssey Woman Sheretta M. West, who encouraged her to go for it!
Kim’s presentation, authenticity, warmth, and expert knowledge of her company wowed the judges and the audience. Notably, when Kim won, she recognized each contestant and said everybody was a winner.
LAMIK Beauty is an eco-chic cosmetics company, and the LAMIK name is an acronym that stands for "Love and Makeup in Kindness". The company’s mission is to help women and girls realize that "beauty is revealed, not applied". LAMIK has a flagship retail store in Houston, Texas, and retails their products.
The second-place winner is Janel Young, owner of Nava Pets, Inc. Nava Pets is an all-natural pet care company. They manufacture a line of pet treats, dog food, and health treatments that are human grade, safe, and nontoxic. Janel won the audience over when she demonstrated her commitment to providing quality products by noting that she has “personally taste tested her products.” Nava Pets was certified as a Green Business Company in 2017.
Our third-place winner is Sonia Smith-Kang, founder/designer of Mixed Up Clothing. A talented and passionate clothing designer, Sonia’s California-based company is a children's clothing line that sources fabric and trims from all over the world to showcase and celebrate the beauty of cultural diversity.
