(BPRW) Prolific Black Male Psychologist, Dr. Brad Thomas, Opens Private Practice in Manhattan

(Black PR Wire) NEW YORK – Trailblazing Black Founder and CEO Dr. Brad Thomas officially announces the opening of Dr. Brad Therapy, a brand-new private practice specializing in the treatment of adults and couples located in the heart of Manhattan.

With May Mental Health Awareness Month fast approaching, Dr. Brad is uniquely positioned to share his expertise as one the few Black male psychologists in the country. According to the American Psychiatric Association (APA), only 4% of all psychologists are Black.  Dr. Brad is dedicated to reducing the stigma associated with seeking mental health services in communities of color by encouraging patients to challenge negative stereotypes, grow their self-esteem, and adaptively confront unprocessed thoughts and feelings to create a more stable sense of self.

Helping people transform trauma into triumph, Dr. Brad has vast experience treating people with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, childhood trauma, and executive functioning difficulties. He addresses a lot of today’s most pressing societal challenges through meaningful conversation that has the power to unlock the root cause of issues.

Dr. Brad says, “By validating the multidimensionality of one’s identity through collaboration and empathic listening, our work together will highlight your inner strengths and activate newer paths toward self-actualization.”

The highly sought-after, licensed clinical psychologist frequently contributes to health and wellness publications and has been a public speaker on implicit racial bias for Fortune 500 companies. In March 2023, Dr. Brad was featured in Medium Magazine and participated in a segment on WCBS on the stigma of mental health in the Black community, the connection between racism and adverse outcomes, and potential warning signs that may indicate decompensation. He has also been selected to author a book chapter entitled, The Racial Melancholia of Aspiring Black NFL Coaches (Rowman and Littlefield, 2024).

Dr. Brad has a PhD in clinical psychology from The Graduate Center, CUNY; he wrote his doctoral dissertation on the effects of two kinds of stereotype threat on implicit racial bias in African-Americans.  Dr. Brad also holds both an MFA in Creative Nonfiction and an MA in psychology from The New School.

Before practicing clinical psychology, Dr. Brad parlayed his prowess on the football field into a full scholarship to Boston College before graduating with honors from Hampton University.  His enthusiasm for athletics, physical conditioning, and wellness inspired him to subsequently work as a celebrity fitness trainer – an arena where he has helped hundreds of clients improve their mental and physical health over his 20+ year career – and solidified his stature as a bona fide mind-body expert.

Sky’s the limit, but Dr. Brad can also speak to: Mind-Body Health and Wellness Stories; the critical connection between mental and physical health; anxiety, stress, and depression during these trying times; imposter syndrome; Black mental health; stereotype threat & implicit racial bias; helping people overcome stuck points to achieve their goals; becoming free from fear of failure; leveraging gratitude to improve mental wellness; and how to improve the quality of romantic relationships.

Dr. Brad is available for in-person interviews, speaking engagements, and consulting opportunities.
