Rep. Hakeem Jeffries Among Honorees
(Black PR Wire) Financial District, Chicago – Founders of the Pullman Porters Museum and the organized labor community proudly announce the resounding success of the National A. Philip Randolph Gentle Warrior Awards Gala held on February 22, 2025 in Chicago's Financial District.
This year's gala was particularly special as it marked the museum's actual founding date of February 25, 1995 and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, which will be celebrated on August 25, 2025. The tremendous affair was made possible through the generous support of title sponsor, Wintrust Bank, along with a host of other supporters.
Among the celebrated honorees was Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D- NY), a prominent leader in civil rights and social justice, who shared his profound respect and gratitude during a recorded acceptance speech.
"Receiving this award is not just an honor; it represents the legacy of those who fought tirelessly for justice and equality. A. Philip Randolph and the Pullman Porters embodied resilience and dignity, paving the way for future generations," Jeffries stated.
The gala brought together organized labor, community leaders, historians and supporters who united to celebrate the enduring impact of Randolph and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) and their significant contributions to American history. Attendees enjoyed an inspiring evening filled with award presentations, inspiring remarks, a performance by Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist Gerald Albright and an exhibition highlighting the rich heritage of the Brotherhood.
"This gala serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and perseverance of A. Philip Randolph and the BSCP, whose legacy continues to inspire us today," said Dr. Lyn Hughes, Founder of The Pullman Porters Museum. "As we celebrate our 30th anniversary and the upcoming centennial of the Brotherhood, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving this vital chapter of American history and educating future generations."
All are invited to visited the newly designed Pullman Porters Museum website at ThePullmanPortersMuseum.org for more information about upcoming events, exhibits, and educational programs dedicated to honoring the legacy of the Pullman Porters.
