Vocational Conference Provides Career Paths for Miami Youth

(Black PR Wire) MIAMI, Florida – Overtown Youth Center (OYC) is pleased to announce that it will host a Vocational Conference on Thursday, September 27st, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  The Vocational Conference focuses on youth workforce readiness and is for career seekers ages 16 and above. The event will take place at Overtown Youth Center, 450 NW 14th Street, Miami, 33136. Attendees will have an opportunity to explore career path information for multiple professions including CDL driver, cosmetologist, dental assistant, electrician, EMT/Firefighter, heating and AC mechanic, law enforcement, medical assistant, nursing, pharmacy technician, and plumbing.

 

According to event organizers, the career opportunities will offer an earning potential of $40,000.00 to $70,000.00 and provides options to pursue a career within 18 months.  The event is generously sponsored by AshBritt, a local disaster recovery and environmental services firm.  Event activities are supported by several community partners including AAR, Bank of America, Carnival Foundation, College Board, The City of Miami, Miami-Dade County Public School Board, Miami Dade Economic Advocacy Trust, The Miami Foundation, Overtown Children and Youth Coalition, United Way of Miami, and Wells Fargo.

 

The Overtown Youth Center promotes the tenets of empowerment, inspiration and enrichment in the lives of children and families. OYC focuses on providing comprehensive youth development services to students enrolled in elementary school through post-secondary education. In addition to academics, every student in the program partakes in the center’s enrichment programs (i.e. academics, dance, fitness, music, STEM, art, etc.). Since its inception in 2003, nearly 100% of OYC seniors have graduated from high school and pursued college, vocational programs or employment.
