Bettye Davis-Lewis is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University College of Nursing with a B.S. in Nursing. She has received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from the University of Houston, Houston, Texas, a Master of Education and Doctorate of Education from Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas. She is a graduate of Leadership Texas and a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum, Fellow in the International Society of Hypertension in Blacks. Dr. Lewis was the first African American selected as a Leadership Extern in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
Her professional expertise includes: Director of Nurses for Mental Health Mental Retardation Authority of Harris County; Director of Nursing for Riverside General Hospital; Director of Nursing Education at Houston International Hospital; Assistant Professor of Allied Health Science, Texas Southern University; and Adjunct Professor at Prairie View A&M University, College of Nursing.
Dr. Lewis is dedicated to her professional and civic involvement. She is Past First Vice President of the National Black Nurses Association, and she is Past President of Black Nurses of Greater Houston. She also has served in numerous capacities including Chairperson of the Finance Committee and Executive Board Member of the National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurses; and served as Past President of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society Eta Delta Chapter, Prairie View A&M University National Alumni Association, Prairie View A&M University Nurses Alumni. She serves on numerous boards which include United Negro College Fund, Theater Under the Stars, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's and related Diseases/State of Texas, 5A Advisory Board for Museum of Fine Arts.

Dr. Lewis has received many awards for her outstanding accomplishments including the 2000 African American Life Achievement Award, Edith Award, Crystal Award, Emerge Business Award, and the Distinguished Leadership Award from Texas Nurses Association, District #9. Dr. Lewis is listed in Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in America and Distinguished African Americans. In 2004, Ebony Magazine honored Dr. Bettye Davis-Lewis as one of America's 100+ Influential African Americans.
