He is not only rich and famous, but he's also a dedicated and caring individual.The renowned actor, comedian, business owner and family man featured in the December edition of Power Profiler is just that and a whole lot more.Our profiler is none other than Mr. Tommy Ford.
Dating back to his childhood, Tommy had a desire and a dream to become an actor and portray positive African-American characters.He wanted to bring our rich heritage, culture and tradition to life. He wanted to empower youth and convince them that hard work and dedication, along with a solid education can carry them as far as they want to go.This is his personal motto.
Known worldwide for his blockbuster performances in sitcoms and drama series such as "Martin," "The Parkers" and "New York Undercover" "" to movies including "House Party", "Harlem Nights" and others, Tommy Ford has always had a will to use his talents and skills.Throughout his career, Tommy has held steadfast to his dream and portrayed characters that youth can look up to.In addition to his role as "˜Tommy' on the hit television series, "Martin," where he portrayed a loyal friend and confidant, Tommy also starred as Lieutenant Malcolm Barker on the hit drama "New York Undercover" where he fought crime and violence. He also guest-starred in the popular television shows "A Different World" and "Living Single."Furthermore, he starred in and supported "Sister, I'm Sorry," a relationship healing video which addresses the mental and physical abuse of African-American females.
Although acting is his first love, Tommy has a wide repertoire. He has successfully directed and produced several plays.He has been involved in numerous theater productions for which he has received great critical acclaim for his directing and acting efforts.Among these productions are Jonin, South of Where We Live (Drama-Logue Award, Image Award Nomination), Monsoon Christmas (Drama-Logue Award, Image Award), Living Room (Image Award Nomination), and Distant Fires (Drama-Logue Award, Image Award Nomination). Tommy has even tapped into the music industry where he earned the title of executive producer of a gospel CD entitled "Tommy Ford Presents Broderick E. Rice Alive."
When it comes to arts and culture, Tommy lives it and breathes it. A strong community activist, he takes his responsibility as an actor and role model very seriously. As a non-relenting advocate who not only talks the talk, but walks the walk, he is a great supporter of charitable organizations, particularly those that benefit children.He is also the president of ICYCC (Inner City Youth Cultivation Counsel) and has donated quality time and funds to The Dangerfield Institute for Foster Care, and Black Parenting.
Tommy is the author of a series of children's books as well as the founder of Be Still & Know, a non-profit organization that promotes positive family values in the community. He does everything in his power to share his wealth of wisdom with African-American youth and families.
Consistent with this mission, Tommy also speaks nationwide on community empowerment and living drug free.
Tommy has expanded his love for arts and culture and aspires to reach new heights.
