Otis G. Cox, Jr.
Mr. Otis G. Cox, Jr., served the Governor of West Virginia as Secretary of the Department of Public Safety from 1997-2001, following a distinguished 25-year career in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Since the Governor left office in 2001, Mr. Cox had been serving on the faculty, as well as the Public Safety Coordinator at West Virginia University. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Savannah State University and his Master in Public Administration from Suffolk University.
Mr. Cox was also chosen by the Governor of West Virginia to serve on the Governor's Minority Student Strategies Council. The council addressed growing academic disparity between minority and non-minority students in the states school system.
Mr. Cox is deeply committed to the safety mission of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Mr. Cox was responsible for the move of the Identification Division from Washington DC to Clarksburg, WV in 1991. He has a lot of experience with reorganizing agencies, implementation of large IT projects, and working closely with field offices.
