Black PR Wire Power Profiler on Senator Barack Obama
This month Black PR Wire would like to recognize U.S. Senator Barack Obama as our Power Profiler. Barack Obama touched many people with the delivery of his keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. His conscientious words touched people all over the country and in the meantime got him recognized as politics' new rising star. Although it seems as though his popularity and influence came overnight, that is certainly not the case. In 1996 Obama decided to run for a vacant state senate seat and was elected to the 13th legislative district, which covers Chicago's Southside. In addition to being state senator he also was a chairman for the Public Health and Welfare committee. He also served on judiciary and revenue committees. While holding the seat as state senator he made great political strides. In 2004 Obama gained the seat of the United States Senate and became the fifth African American senator in United States history representing the state of Illinois.
Mr. Obama attended Columbia University, located in New York, New York, where he received his bachelor's degree in political science. After Obama finished his educational career he decided that he wanted to begin his actual career, and he began working as a community organizer for a local organization in Chicago, Illinois. After three years he realized that he wanted to continue his education at the prestigious Harvard Law School. While attending Harvard, Obama became the first African American to hold the position as president of the Harvard Law Review. After graduating from Harvard Law School Obama began working for Miner, Barnhill and Galland, a law firm in Chicago. He also wrote a book based on his family life by the name of Dreams from My Father.
Barack Obama's family includes wife Michelle and their two daughters.
